We have always believed that we don’t teach subjects, we teach human beings.
And humans, as such, have cognitive as well as affective needs which must be catered for. A brain in pain cannot learn.
SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) is just as important as any other subject in the curriculum: through SEL, students learn to manage their own emotions and their behaviors, as well as other people emotions which will help them cultivate empathy and compassion.
Social-emotional learning, or SEL, is a process designed to support young students wellbeing and academic performance in five key areas: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.
The course highlights the role emotions and well-being play in the learning process and showcases SEL as a framework teachers can use to help the students thrive in the classroom and beyond.
Research has shown time again that students with strong SEL skills do better academically, have improved attitudes and behaviors, and seldom misbehave.
