Drogheda is one of the oldest towns in Ireland, it is located in the Dublin-Belfast corridor on the east coast of the country, in County Louth.
Drogheda has about 41,000 inhabitants (2016), making it the 11th largest settlement by population in all of Ireland.
Originally they were two different towns, which were administered separately: Drogheda-in-Meath and Drogheda-in-Oriel. This division was due to the natural border formed by the Boyne River between two Irish kingdoms, a border that is still standing today in the town, the two towns were united in the year 1491. and today it is known as Drogheda, name means in Irish 'bridge at the ford'.
Lately, the city's economy does not depend so much on its traditional industries, its population works mainly in the service and technology sectors.
The town is becoming a focus for the arts. It was also chosen to host the An Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann Irish music festival in 2018 and 2019.
The city is well known in Ireland for its football team (Drogheda United), and for being the birthplace of Pierce Brosnan, the famous Irish actor who played James Bond.
