Tuition 43 hours per two week course
This is a practical, active and interactive course that explores current trends in English, provides opportunities for language development and practice and presents practical ideas and techniques for teaching language. You will learn up-to-date idiomatic and colloquial English, explore how the current cultural climate is affecting English and be more aware of changes in English pronunciation and grammar. You will also experience a variety of effective teaching strategies, activities and techniques that you can use with your own students in your own classroom.
Topics covered on Contemporary English include:
How English is affected by the cultural climate Language, gender and political correctness Lexical change and development: where new words come from and how they are formed Grammar change and the implications for teaching Slang, contemporary phrasal verbs and idioms
Pronunciation: from RP to the English of the future Exploiting authentic materials for learning activities Topics can be adapted depending on participants’ professional needs, priorities, and teaching context.
Workshops In addition to the core development course, teachers choose two additional workshops a week, such as ‘Using film in the classroom’, ‘Motivating students’ and ‘Different ways to use songs in the classroom’.

Our partner school in Aberdeen, Scotland, is located in the centre of the granite city, near the maritime port and in easy reach of the shopping area with many cultural and leisure pass times at hand too.
The atmosphere in this school is pleasant and friendly, as it is a small school and we get to know all our students.
We have a rich cultural and social programme on offer, with trips to other beautiful places in Scotland, including Loch Ness, malt whisky distilleries, the Highland Games and The Edinburgh Festival among others, you will also be able to take part in a real Scottish ceilidh, as well as other activities to get to know the Scottish culture and traditions. In this school you can choose a course from our various general English courses, our Cambridge examination courses or take a university preparation course.
