Learn English in Preston
Preston is a city in the north of England, located on the River Ribble, next to the Irish Sea.
In the 14th century Preston was an industrial city associated with the Textile industry, in which Flemish weavers settled in the 14th century, establishing a textile industry that would boost the economy until the mid-20th century when its decline arrived.
One of its most popular characters is Sir Richard Arkwright, the man who invented the revolutionary rotating frame in the 1700s, who was born in Preston.
As a flourishing industrial center in the 18th and 19th centuries, Preston was graced with beautiful squares, parks for the enjoyment of its inhabitants, and institutions like the Harris Museum.
Today you can see many of Preston's industrial past, including its historic Docklands district and steam railway, while the city center mixes old with new, with glass-fronted shopping centers surrounded by elegant Georgian townhouses.
The Ribble steam train has one of the best locomotive museums in the UK, and St Walburge's church has the tallest tower of all the parish churches in England.
