This Teacher's Refresher and Methodology Course is aimed at those working in Primary or Secondary education and Adult Education.
This English course is for non-native English teachers with experience in the teaching of English either as a secondary school subject or as an EFL subject. The course is 27.5 hours in class per week plus cultural activity programme.
These hours are made up of 10 hours of general English + 7.5 hours of workshops and 10 hours of Methodology class.
The objectives of the course are to bring teaching methods up to date by implementing new ideas and activities to be developed in class, with a strong focus on analysis and reflection of teaching and learning aptitude, by looking at what we do in class and sharing our practice to learn and develop together with colleagues from other parts of the world.
On this course participants have the double benefit of improving their English level in the four skill areas, as well as finding new approaches to course books and adaptation of activities, through reflection on current practice and the introduction of new tendencies in education.
Who is the course suitable for?
Non-native secondary and adult teachers engaged in planning and/or delivering ELT programmes
Non-native teachers of English who wish to update their English language, develop their confidence in using the language,
and expand their vocabulary and range of expression
Participants should have a minimum language level corresponding to B2 in the Common European Framework
Please note this course is not suitable for primary school teachers.
Course aims
To develop your English language skills and improve your competence and confidence in English
To update your methodology, management and practical teaching techniques and skills
To examine and reflect on your own approaches and attitudes to teaching and learning
To become more aware of what you and others do in the classroom
To discuss and share ideas, problems, methods and techniques with peers from other parts of the world
Course programme
Preparation
All participants are required to fill in a pre-course questionnaire. It is very important that this is returned at the earliest opportunity as the course is pre-planned based on this. The course content is outlined and discussed on the first
afternoon, and is then adapted as appropriate. Students should bring a coursebook or unit with them for use during the programme.
Objectives
The aim of the morning sessions is to develop your language skills so that you will feel more confident teaching in English.
The sessions aim to develop your language skills with a particular focus on speaking and listening, extend your vocabulary, grammatical and functional knowledge, and also to improve your knowledge of pronunciation.
Teaching techniques
In the afternoon sessions, participants will experience a variety of teaching techniques, materials, devices and procedures
designed to help students acquire language. There is a focus on current methodologies and practical teaching skills that
participants will evaluate for effectiveness and also discuss ways of adapting these to fit in with different teaching contexts.
